For sale is a vintage 1971 COLEMAN LANTERN Model 220F with a double lite mantle and an original clear glass globe that’s etched with the Coleman Logo. This sale includes a number of accessories such as a Coleman Storage Case, false bottom storage compartment, and spare parts. The side of the base includes a Coleman logo. This complete lantern is in very good condition. No defects to glass globe and base does not leak. The top has some minor surface where the metal top screw secures the top cap. The bottom of the lantern is marked with a “71” which indicates a 1971 manufacture date. The bottom also includes the Coleman slogan: “The Sunshine of the Night”. When the carry handle is fully extend the lantern measures about 20 inches tall from the base to the top of the handle. The diameter of the base is 6 inches. A great Americana collectible.
This sale also includes the highly desirable matching sturdy guillotine style COLEMAN METAL LANTERN CARRY CASE which was sold separately as an accessory. The metal carry case is in excellent shape and includes the plastic removable lantern tray which can be removed if you want to store an earlier model Coleman lantern.
This green lantern sale also includes a detachable storage compartment for the bottom of the lantern. The storage compartment is is marked with a patent number 3496349 which was filed in 1966. The compartment includes a shallow pan and a split draw band located about the pan and adapted to fit over a lower peripheral rim of the base of the lantern. The compartment provides a convenient place to safekeep replaceable elements by providing a detachable accessory compartment secured beneath the lantern for storage of replaceable elements, tools, matches and the like. This includes multiple silk mantles, a wrench, and a lantern cleaning rod.
In 1914, the Coleman company started to manufacture a line of pressure lamps. Their original lamps were made to burn kerosene or gasoline. Current models use kerosene, gasoline, Coleman fuel (white gas) or propane and use one or two mantles to produce an intense white light.
