For sale is a 1950s EVERREADY COLUMBIA DRY CELL TELEPHONE BATTERY made by National Carbon Company. Battery is untested and measures approximately 6” tall. The battery looks great but has some minor staining to the paper wrap. A cool collectible for anyone interested in vintage telephones or vintage technology.
In 1896, the National Carbon Company (NCC) started producing dry cell batteries. The company was the sole source of dry cell batteries for the auto industry and telephone companies during the early 1900s. NCC was the corporate predecessor of the Energizer Battery Company. The NCC six-inch tall, 1.5 volt Columbia dry cell battery satisfied the requirements of the consumer market and served as the basis of all dry cell batteries for the next sixty years. In the late 1950s, the alkaline battery by the Eveready Battery Company (now Energizer) replaced the dry cell.
