For sale is a 1960 FANNER SHOOTIN’ SHELL DIECAST CAP GUN from Mattel. This iconic toy gun was first sold in 1957 was designed to mimic Colt revolvers. This toy is famous for using realistic, reusable plastic-and-metal shells. The guns used “Greenie Stik-M-Caps,” which were small, adhesive-backed paper caps that were placed directly onto the shell casing, a notable improvement over old roll caps. The toy’s “fanner” action allowed kids to rapidly fire by slapping the hammer which simulated popular Western TV heroes of the time. A first rate collectible toy.

The Mattel toy company is best known for launching the Barbie fashion doll in 1959. The Shootin Shell Fanner Pistol was sold during the same timeframe to earn some of the boys’ hard earned spending cash.
