For sale is a vintage ELLISCO OIL MEASURING CAN with a brass maker’s mark. This rare one gallon sized tin pitcher measures about 13 inches tall and the base of the can measures 6 1/2 inches diameter. The can includes a brass maker’s mark that reads: “GEO. D. ELLIS & SONS INC – Philadelphia, PA – ELLISCO – PENNA B10 NEW YORK CITY B10 ALABAMA B10 NORTH CAROLINA NEW JERSEY”. The side of the can is lightly stamped “1 GAL LQD”. The can is is in overall good condition but one side is slightly dented and the bottom has a few small pin holes. This awesome can is believed to date to the 1920s or 1930s and may have been intended for use with farm tractors.

The George D. Ellis & Sons Inc, 309 North Third Street, Philadelphia, PA was founded in 1843 as a manufacturer of specialty metal containers. In the early 1900s, the company’s name was changed to ELLISCO. No petroliana collection is complete without including a vintage ELLISCO product.
