This shipping crate originally contained Peters small arms ammunition manufactured by the Peters Cartridge Division of the Remington Arms Company in King Mills, Ohio. During the early 20th century, Peters was a Remington competitor and a very successful company during WWI. However, during the Great Depression, the company struggled and was acquired by Remington.
Peters small arms ammunition boxes generally date from 1903 to the 1960s. Boxes made after 1934 include the Remington and Dupont logos. Boxes made after 1930 included an oval with “Rustless” in the oval. The absence of these features suggests that this crate probably dates to the 1920s.
