For sale is a vintage FREDERICK REYNOLDS straight edge razor. The tang is stamped “Manufactured by Frederick Reynolds Sheffield”. The razor has a 3/4” wide mirrored blade. The handle and blade are in great condition. The straight razor is about 6 1/4 inches in length closed or 9 5/8 inches open. Straight edge razors are also called open razors and cut-throat razors. A nice collectible straight edge razor.
By 1851, Frederick Reynolds was a well-established as a razor manufacturer awho employed eight men and three boys. He died on 22 October 1877 at the age of 63. By 1929, the firm was in financial difficulty due to competition from safety razors. In 1936, the company was re-registered as Frederick Reynolds Ltd. During the Second World War, the firm was restyled again as Frederick Reynolds (Cutlers Sheffield) Ltd. Frederick Reynolds razors which do not include “England” on the tang were made before the US civil war.
