For sale is an original early 1900s JOE CANNON CIGAR BOX LABEL. This inner cigar box label features a portrait of former Speaker of the House Joseph G. Cannon. He was born in 1836. He was a member of Congress from 1872 until 1923. The label measures 8 1/2 inches by 7 inches. New old stock cigar labels are around because cigar factories often had extra labels on hand since if you didn’t have labels on hand for your boxes you couldn’t sell your cigars. Perfect for collectors of vintage cigar labels or history enthusiasts, this item serves as a tangible piece of American political history.

Joseph Gurney Cannon (1836–1926) was a leader of the Republican Party and Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1903 to 1911. Historians generally consider him to be the most dominant Speaker to have held the position. He was also the first Congressman to surpass 40 years of service, and was the subject of the first cover of Time Magazine.
