For sale is an early 1900s ANSCO BUSTER BROWN No 2 BOX CAMERA manufactured by Ansco of Binghamton, New York. This box camera is constructed of well seasoned wood and covered in imitation leather with heavily nickel plated metal parts. The body of the camera is in very good condition with some usual wear and tear. Camera is untested but the camera’s mechanics are functional. The camera’s leather strap is stamped “No. 2 BUSTER BROWN”. The camera features both portrait plus landscape viewfinders and a leaf shutter with approximately 1/50 of a second shutter speed, and a fixed focus glass lens. An awesome collectible camera.
Ansco began manufacturing the No. 2 Buster Brown box camera around 1906. The camera got its name, Buster Brown, after a popular comic strip character created in 1902 by Richard F. Outcault. This camera was made to compete with Kodak’s Brownies, cameras named after mischievous fairy-like sprites. The camera uses standard 120 film.
