For sale is an antique Civil War Era GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SONS CELEBRATED STRAIGHT EDGE RAZOR. The tang is stamped “George Wostenholm & Sons – Celebrated “I – XL” – Celebrated Razor – Rockingham Works – Sheffield”. The top of the razor blade has an unusual brass tent. The razor has a 5/8” wide blade. The razor is in good condition. The straight razor is about 6 1/2 inches in length closed or 9 3/4 inches open.

Straight edge razors are also called open razors and cut-throat razors. A nice collectible straight edge razor.

In 1837, after George Wostenholm’s son joined his business, he renamed his company “George Wostenholm & Son”. The company operated out of the Rockingham Works facility until 1847. After 1847, the company manufactured razors from the Washington Works in Sheffield. Since this razor was made at the Washington Works facility, the razor for sale was manufactured after 1847.
