For sale is 1920s ENGLISH SALTER HOUSEHOLD SCALE No. 46 & Round Metal Pan. This original Salter’s 28 pound capacity Iron Clad Spring Scale is in overall great condition. The cast iron scale body is rust free and features the Salter company Arrow & Rope Logo. The scale face is in original condition and has scratches and stains consistent with the scale’s age. This scale was sold for household use to weigh produce and baking ingredients. The spring in the interior casing can be calibrated by turning the screw on the backside. The round scale pan is not original to the Salter scale but they are both vintage and they work well together. The round pan and was made by the Cakes Manufacturing Company, Tipton, Indiana. The Salter scale measures about 11 inches tall overall and the base measures about 7 1/4 inches wide. The pan measures 10 inches diameter. Accuracy is unknown but scale still works as intended. A must have for any vintage scale collector.

SALTER HOUSEWARES began in the late 1760 in the village of Bilston, England. At this time Richard Salter, a spring maker, began making ‘pocket steelyards’, a scale similar to the fisherman’s scale of today. By 1825 his nephew George had taken over the company, which became known as George Salter & Co.
