For sale is a 1950s “Guaranteed Plumb” OFFICIAL SCOUT AXE of the BOY SCOUTS of AMERICA. Plumb was a contractor who produced these axes for the Boy Scouts from 1950 until 1955. The axe head is marked with the Boy Scout logo and the Fleur dis Lis. The edge on the one-pound axe head is in excellent condition. The axe handle appears original. The axe head measures 4 1/8 inches by 3 inches. The entire axe is about 13 1/4 inches long. A great vintage tool for wood cutting kindling while camping or for home defense.
The Boy Scouts of America grew out of the international Scouting movement founded by Robert Baden-Powell in 1908. Chicago publisher W.D. Boyce was impressed by the popularity of Baden-Powell’s U.K.-based organization, and in 1910 formally created the Boy Scouts of America. Based on its initial mission to teach boys “patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred values,” the Boy Scouts focused on these broad goals as learned through outdoor activities and hands-on life skills.
