For sale is a 1930s STANLEY No. 69 BOXWOOD & BRASS FOLDING RULER from the Stanley Rule & Level Company. Stanley was the most prominent maker of folding rulers and the company designated their one-foot, four-fold rulers a Model “No 69” ruler. Prior to the 1960s, it was common for craftsman and apprentice to carry a folding boxwood ruler in his apron or overall pocket. These rulers were easy to keep on hand because the ruler is only about 3 inches in length when folded. A great collectible vintage tool. A fantastic vintage 12 inch ruler.

In 1851, Anton Ullrich invented the modern folding ruler. Folding boxwood rulers were initially made by hand. Later, they were mass-produced prominent American manufacturers including such as Stanley in Connecticut and Lufkin in Michigan.
