In 1851, C. Herman Kohlbusch (1822-1913), a German craftsman emigrated to the United States. In 1859, he established the Herman Kohlbusch Balance Company. In 1888, his company issued what is believed to be the first U.S. American balance company catalog. Charles’ eldest son Edgar continued as a manufacturer of scales and weights as late as 1920 under the firm name of Herman Kohlbusch, Sr. Sometime in the mid 1920s, the firm’s name was changed to Seederer-Kohlbusch with the logo SEKO, Inc. In 1930, after Jacob Emil Seederer assumed the leadership of the company, the company was renamed Seederer-Kohlbusch, Inc. Since this scale was manufactured by the SEKO, this scale dates to the 1920s.
