For sale is an antique early 1900s COLGATE’S VIOLET TALC POWDER TIN made by Colgate & Company Perfumers, NY. This small lithographic tin is in excellent condition with strong color. The front and back features an intricate bouquet of flowers. The back of the tin is marked “new design ’06” which indicates this style of tin was introduced in 1906. This rare ornate tin stands about 4 3/4 inches tall.
Colgate-Palmolive’s history traces back to the early 19th century when William Colgate, a soap and candle maker, began selling his wares in New York City under the name William Colgate & Company. After his death in 1857, the company was run by his son, Samuel Colgate, under the new name Colgate & Company. In 1928, Palmolive-Peet bought the Colgate Company to create the Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company. In 1953, “Peet” was dropped from the title, leaving only “Colgate-Palmolive Company”, the current name. This vintage tin was made before 1928.
