French’s is a company much better known for its yellow mustard than bird medicine. In 1880, Robert Timothy French, a spice trader, started his own company to manufacture spices and extracts. By 1904, the company developed its signature item — French’s Cream Salad Brand Mustard, which was introduced at the St. Louis World’s Fair. French’s mustard became far and away the industry leader, once maintaining a 50 percent share of all mustard sold in the U.S.
