For sale is a WWII era U.S. Navy CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY PHOTO. This glossy black and white photograph depicts a change of command ceremony with the outgoing and incoming ship’s Captain shaking hands in their dress uniforms. You can deduce who is the incoming Captain because the new boss always has more to say than the old boss. In the photo you can see that the incoming Captain’s speech notes are much longer than the speech notes for the outgoing officer. Photo measures about 10 inches by 8 inches. A cool US Navy collectible.
The “370” depicted on the ship suggests this photos was a change of command for the USS Case (DD-370), a Mahan-class destroyer in the United States Navy before and during World War II. Case was launched at the Boston Navy Yard, Boston, Massachusetts, on 14 September 1935. She was sponsored by Miss. M. R. Case and commissioned on 15 September 1936, with Commander J. S. Roberts in command. Case was berthed at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese struck on 7 December 1941 and then served in the Pacific Fleet until the end of World War II.
