For sale is a vintage mid-century ROBINSON RANSBOTTOM BLUE CROWN No. 2 BEAN POT & LID made by Robinson Ransbottom, Roseville, Ohio. This stoneware crock has the company’s iconic stenciled crown emblem. This brown pottery stoneware pot is in very good condition with some crazing. The lid has a small edge chip. The number painted on the crock in the crown indicates this is a two quart size crock. Stoneware jar stands 6 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches diameter at the widest part of the jar. A great stoneware jar for your vintage kitchen decor.
Most stoneware in the U.S. was imported from Europe until the end of the American Revolution. American potters started making their own stoneware crocks. New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania were the first states to start making stoneware. The cylinder shape of crocks wasn’t mainstream until about 1860. In 1920, Ransbottom Brothers Pottery merged with Robinson Clay Products to create Robinson-Ransbottom Pottery. They are best known for their cobalt blue crown mark.
