For sale is a mid-century SUCRETS THROAT LOZENGES TIN from the Sharp & Dohme Division of Merk & Company, Philadelphia, PA. This vintage rectangular tin is in excellent condition and has a hinged lid. The metal tin measures 3 1/4 inches, by 2 1/2 inches, by 3/4 inches deep. A decent apothecary collectible.
In 1931, Merck started selling the Sucrets brand in the now popular “tin box”. In 1966, the Federal Trade Commission ordered the company to discontinue the false claims that Sucrets throat lozenges possessed germ-killing and pain-relieving properties. Sucrets has remained a household name synonymous with “serious sore throat relief” for over 75 years.
