For sale is a 1930s SIMONIZ MOTORISTS WISE WAX TIN from the Simoniz Company, Chicago, Illinois. This boldly colored round tin features a man polishing a 1930’s automobile. The short side of the this seven ounce tin has directions and suggestions for use. It has a pry off type lid that is slightly domed. The tin has minor surface wear. It very uncommon to find this particular tin in such great condition. The tin measures five inches diameter. Perfect tin to display with vintage oil can or petroliana signs.
In1911, George Simon and Elmer Rich, of the Great Northern Railway, founded the first American car wax company. They named the company the Simons Manufacturing Company which sold Simon’s Paste Wax. In 1912, the Rich brothers purchased the company and changed the name to the Simoniz Company. In 1924, Mr. Rich created what become one of the world’s best known slogans: “Motorists Wise, Simoniz”. When radio attained prominence, Simoniz took advantage of the novel advertising opportunities afforded by the new medium and for the next 40 years, Simoniz was the number one car wax company in the world. In 1930s, the word Simoniz became so synonymous with waxing cars, the word was added to the Webster Dictionary.
