For sale is a vintage WWII 2nd USMC Division PATCH or shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI). Unit patches identified the soldier’s assigned headquarters. This patch is believed to be a vintage replica. The 2nd Marine Division participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands from January 4 to February 8, 1943.
The Guadalcanal campaign, also known as the Battle of Guadalcanal and codenamed Operation Watchtower by American forces, was a military campaign fought between 7 August 1942 and 9 February 1943 on and around the island of Guadalcanal in the Pacific theater of World War II. The 2nd Marine Division is stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
