For sale is a vintage HERB PASTRY CUTTER – ULU KNIFE – MEZZALUNA KNIFE. This vintage kitchen utensil is in great condition and probably dates to the 1930s or 1940s. The metal circular edge is about 6 inches long with a wooden handle.
The ulu’s shape allows the user to rock the blade back and forth for quick chops, or press down with force for tougher cuts. The grip keeps the user’s hand away from the blade, while still providing enough leverage for a solid cut. The ulu knife originated with the Inuit people of Alaska, northern Canada, Greenland, and eastern Russia. It is often passed down from one generation to the next, as it is believed that the knowledge of the previous owner is retained in the ulu and passed on to the new owner.
