For sale is a vintage STOVE KEROSENE CLEAR GLASS DRIP JUG from an unknown manufacturer. This unusual and distinctive jar has a metal cap with a spring loaded spout probably dates to the 1930s. The glass jar is in excellent condition. The jar has the following embossed lettering on the jar: “USE PETROLEO SOLAMENTE – USE KEROSENE ONLY”. The Spanish word “Petróleo” translates to “oil”, “petroleum” or “crude oil”. So “Petroleo Solamente” must be Spanish for Kerosene. This kerosene jug measures 6 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches diameter. A great item to display next to your vintage Perfection Heater.

Until about 1909, the predominant commercial end-use for petroleum was kerosene. Residential use of kerosene declined during the 1900s as electric lighting started displacing kerosene lamps. Perfection Kerosene Heaters or “lamp stoves” as they were initially called in 1884, were extremely common in American homes through the mid 1900s. They were regularly featured in magazine advertisements as a practical and decoratively pleasing heating solution.
