For sale is an early 1900s CROSS SWORDS PLUG CUT TOBACCO TIN from the J.B. Pace Tobacco Company, Richmond, Virginia. This amazing tobacco tin has a rectangular tin lid which features the iconic cross swords graphic. The tin is in great condition with wear consistent with the age of the tin. All tin graphics and text are clearly legible. Tin measures approximately 4 3/8 inches by 3 3/8 inches by 1 3/8 inches tall. A great addition to any tobacciana collection.

During the civil war, J.B. Pace made a living in Danville, Virginia manufacturing cloth for the Confederate government. After the war he moved to Richmond and entered the tobacco business. The bright tobacco Pace sold was developed by farmers in North Carolina and Virginia was developed just before the civil war. In 1882, Pace was the largest tobacco dealer in Virginia when he sold out his interest in his tobacco company. At that time, his net worth was estimated at $2 million and was one of the wealthiest men in the South.
