In the early 1900s, Morris Falk’s company made plastic hair pins but due to changing hair styles the public demand for his product collapsed. As a result, he adapted his company to make automobile keys. In 1926, he named his company the Independent Lock Company and moved to Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The Independent Lock Company registered “ILCO” as their company trademark on June 6, 1946.
