For sale is an ORIGINAL 1950 40th ANNUAL BIG TEN TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM. The full color cover of this glossary program depicts a sprinter and a stopwatch. The program was printed for a college track meet that occurred in Chicago on March 3 and 4, 1950. This 26-page program is complete and in good condition but some of the interior pages have some pencil notations. The program contents features team rosters for the competing Universities (Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Indiana). The program has coach and athlete photos, a variety of ads from local businesses and a Gregory Peck Chesterfield cigarette advert. The program also includes track records which were in effect at the time of the meet. For example, the record time for the one-mile event was 4:04. The program original sold for 25 cents. A great sports collectible.
In 1921, Led by legendary coach Harry Gill, the University of Illinois won the first-ever official NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, which was held in Chicago. The Fighting Illini scored 20.25 points to edge second-place Notre Dame (16.75 points).
