For sale is an original 1950s era AERONAUTICAL CLUB PATCH from THE BALSA WOOD BEETLES, Fall Church. This full color jacket patch features an insect piloting a toy balsa wood plane. The patch is well designed and in excellent condition. The patch measures 5 inches in diameter. A great collectible for any aviation enthusiast or someone interested in Falls Church community history.

A May 5, 1950 edition of the Virginia Chronicle advertised an upcoming Model Airplane Meet, to be held by the Balsa Beetles on Sunday, July 9, 1950 at the Falls Church Airpark. Contestants was limited to modelers under 21. The Balsa Beetles was an aeronautical club who sponsored contests with the VFW for hobbyists flying balsa wood toy planes. Contests took place at Lee Highway and Shreve Road, which is now route 66. Contests were also held at Falls Church Air Park, which is now Loehman’s Plaza.
