For sale is a collection of FOUR 1880s HANDWRITTEN LETTERS by Doctor R.P. Beedbe, Union City Michigan. The four different letters date between Feb 8, 1881 and Sept 13, 1883. Each of the letters is from Dr. Beedbe and written to his brother. Each letter is about four pages in length. This correspondence provide a fascinating insight in American life in the post civil war era. Content of the letters includes the Doctor complaining that people in Michigan are generally dishonest and his patients often do not pay there medical bills thinking that they will not get sick again. The Doctor also notes that a big local horse race lead to a lot of whiskey drinking and gambling. One letter includes a political discussion of Republican and Democrat party views on the issue of prohibition. The Doctor also discusses a difficult journey to see a patient who lived seven miles out of town. Each letter when folded measures about 8 inches by five inches.
