For sale is an early 1900s HUYLER’S BREAKFAST COCOA LITHOGRAPHIC TIN from Huyler’s, 18th St & Irving Place, NYC.  This yellow, rectangular tin with black lettering and design was used to store and market Huyler’s drinking chocolate. This superb collectible square tin has an circular metal cap with the company’s name embossed on the top. One side of the tin features a toddler carrying a Huylers’ with the same image of the toddler carrying the tin. The text below the toddler graphic states: “Cocoa is the food drink for the boys and girls to grow, work on, play on.” The tin is in excellent condition with minor surface wear consistent with the age of the tin. All tin graphics and text are clearly legible. Tin measures approximately 5 3/4 inches tall by 2 5/8 inches square. A first rate collectible tin.

John Huyler was born in 1846. His father, David Huyler, ran a bakery in New York City. By the early 1860s, John was working in his father’s shop, learning the trade. In 1874, he opened his own confectionary store, and within a few years he had opened three more stores. By the time of his death in 1910, he owned 54 store fronts and 14 factories which employed around 2,000 persons.
