In 1887, the Boston and Lockport Block Company was incorporated by combining the Bagnall and Loud Block Company of Boston and the Penfield Block Company of Lockport, New York. In 1889, the company’s offices and warehouses were located on Commercial and Fulton Streets in Boston, Massachusetts. From the mid-1800s until the early 1900’s, the company operated a factory in Lockport, N.Y.

Pulleys make light work of heavy loads. A single pulley can cut the amount of force needed to lift an object in half. Pulleys were typically used to lift bales of hay into the lofts of barns. A double pulley provides twice the force of a single pulley.
