For sale is a 1954 UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINA YEARBOOK entitled CORKS and CURLS. This 300-page hard cover yearbook is on very good condition with some small mildew spots. Yearbook provides interesting insight on 1950s era fashion, social activities, athletics, and Greek life. The yearbook’s highlights for the year included the student council’s plans for public drinking problems was to form three council committees to each address drinking at athletic events, social functions, dances and concerts. The plans were not favorably received by the student body. A fun 1950s collectible.
This yearbook includes membership in some of the University’s “Secret” Societies. Secret societies have been a part of University of Virginia student life since the first class of students in 1825. While the number of societies peaked during the 75-year period between 1875 and 1950, there are still six societies (Seven Society, Z Society, IMP Society, Eli Banana, T.I.L.K.A., The Thirteen Society). Some of the odd societies in this yearbook include: The Bad Check Committee, Lawn Chowder and Marching Society, the Raven Society, Skulls & Keys, Eli Banana, IMP Society, Z Society, and Thirteen Society.
