For sale is a 1943 MUSIC SHEET for “DAT’S LOVE”. This Jazz music sheet cover features a fashionable African American woman. Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein. The song was from the Broadway show “CARMEN JONES” a more modern version of the opera CARMEN. This sheet is in fair condition with some minor surface and edge wear. There are also a some pencil marks on the interior pages. This music sheet would display nicely.

The opera Carmen was updated to a World War II-era African-American setting and employed an all-black cast. Parachute maker Carmen Jones makes a play for a “fly boy” Air Force man, Joe, who is in love with sweet Cindy Lou and about to marry her on a day pass when Carmen gets into a fight with another woman. Joe’s pass is cancelled in order for him to drive her to the next town to be handed over to the non-military police. Instead, she charms and seduces him, and he is put in the stockade for not delivering her to the authorities.
