For sale is a 1920s era STANLEY BEVELED SOCKET CHISEL 2 INCH CUTTING EDGE. This hefty Sweetheart era Stanley Chisel has a wooden handle. The chisel measures 11 inches long with a 2 inch cutting edge. Stanley chisels are made from high-carbon chrome steel, known for its durability and ability to hold a sharp edge. The chisel is in excellent condition but the wooden handle is cracked where it meets the chisel. A superb collectible tool.

In the United States, the words “tools and hardware” and “Stanley” are almost synonymous. The company began modestly in 1843, when Frederick T. Stanley founded a door-hardware company in New Britain, Connecticut. In 1857, Henry Stanley, Frederick’s cousin, launched the Stanley Rule and Level Company. In 1878, the company acquired Leonard Bailey & Company. Bailey held numerous patents on such mainstay tools as planes, which Stanley Rule and Level augmented with mitre boxes, rulers, hand drills, hammers, and, of course, its lines of wood and iron levels. By 1920, the two different Stanley firms merged.

During the Sweetheart Era of Stanley tools, the Stanley logo included a “SW” marking within a heart symbol. This marking was a tribute to Mr. William A. Sweet, President of the Stanley Rule and Level Company. The logo marking was introduced after William Sweet passed away in 1912. This sweetheart logo marking was used between 1909 and 1922.
