The P.H. Mayo & Bros. Tobacco Company is credited with bringing cigarette manufacturing to Richmond in 1874. Plug cut tobacco is a type of pressed pipe tobacco, essentially flake pipe tobacco before it’s been cut into flakes. Tobacco tins were common among miners who would chew “twist” tobacco due to fire risks in the mines.
