For sale is a 1915 THE MOTOR GIRLS ON THE WATERS BLUE (or the Strange Cruise by the Tartar) HARDCOVER BOOK by Margaret Penrose. This young adult book was the eight book in the The Motor Girls Series. This book is in very good condition with an intact spine and terrific cover art. Inside the cover there is a handwritten gift subscription dated 1918. The plot of the 250-page book concerns the girls taking a long cruise down the the West Indies where they fell in with a foreign girl who informs them that her father is a political prisoner on one of the islands. A fun story full of mystery. A fun literary collectible.
The Stratemeyer Syndicate was the producer of a number of mystery series for children, including Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, the various Tom Swift series, the Bobbsey Twins, the Rover Boys, and others. Margaret Penrose was a house pseudonym used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate. The name Margaret Penrose was used for The Dorothy Dale series; and The Radio Girls series (Later reprinted as The Campfire Girls series). Many of these books were written by Lilian Garis.
