For sale is an antique 1910s era WINNER LUNCH PAIL STYLE TOBACCO TIN from the J. Wright Tobacco Company, Richmond, VA. The two main side panels of this full color lithographic advertising feature an early automobile race with spectators. The two side panels features a great detailed picture of the Winner Cut Plug Tobacco Pack. The sides of this tin are in great condition but the top of the tin has significant wear and is dented. The tin has aside latch, hinged lid, and bale handle top and measures 7 7/8 inches long, by 5 1/4 inches wide, and 4 1/4 inches deep. An iconic tobacciana collectible.
In 1890, J. B. Duke founded the American Tobacco Company through a merger between a number of U.S. tobacco manufacturers including Allen and Ginter and Goodwin & Company. The company was one of the original 12 members of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. In 1911, the Supreme Court deemed the company a monopoly in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act and ordered the company to dissolve. The J Wright Tobacco company who sold winner Tobacco was one of the successor companies and this tin was one of their early products.
