For sale is an original antique GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY OIL CAN SHIPPING CRATE from the General Electric Company, Schenectady, NY. This crate was used to ship a 5 Gallon oil can. The company logo is marked on two sides of the crate. Logo is inscribed “General Electric Company – G.E. No. 6 Oil – Schenectady, NY”. The crate is in excellent condition with great graphics. Crate measures 16 7/8 inches tall. The base of the crate measures 10 1/2 inches square. An awesome petroliana collectible.
Fuel oil No. 6, sometimes referred to as ‘bunker fuel’ or ‘bunker C’, is a high viscosity oil used mostly as a boiler fuel and in commercial and industrial heating. It requires preheating in storage tanks to permit pumping and additional preheating at the burner to permit atomizing.
