For sale is a fantastic vintage January 1955 back issue for a gossip magazine called “THE LOWDOWN” published by Beacon Publications, Canton, Ohio. This bi-monthly magazine was a 1950’s pulp journalism where its Hollywood correspondents bring you–yes, the lowdown on American and International Life in celebrity news. This magazine originally sold for 25 cents. The cover features actress Marilyn Monroe. The magazine features historical vintage adds such as a $1 record of the month club featuring recording stars Eddie Fisher, Perry Como, and Rosemary Clooney (George Clooney’s aunt). The articles are tabloid style over-the-top tales which include: “Are the REDS creating an Ape-Slave Race?”, “Do Bras Cause Cancer?”, “Are International Lounge Lizards Bleeding American Women White?”; and a discussion why stars such as Marilyn Monroe have bad marriages. The 66-page magazine is in fair condition. The front cover has some folds and minor tears. This magazine is complete but the back third of the magazine pages have a torn corner. The spine is intact. This magazine was the National Inquirer or Sun tabloid of its days. Would display nicely in a frame. A great 1950s ephemera collectible.
